Earlier this year, Outback Goldfields (TSXV: OZ; OTCQB: OZBKF) announced the transformative acquisition of highly prospective gold exploration projects in the Central Lapland region of Finland covering over 35,000ha.
These exploration assets include one of the top greenfield gold discoveries in Central Lapland - the 100%-owned foundational Paana project - as well as two existing JV’s – with Rupert Resources and Kinross Gold. The discovery, in a geological setting, is analogous to Agnico Eagle’s 9.0Moz Kittilä Mine, which is only 16km away and is Europe’s largest gold producer. The discovery is in a 1.3-km long gold zone with only 13,000m drilled to date, yet has yielded long sections of lower grade or punctuated with some very high-grade sections.
Despite many similarities to the Abititi 125+ years ago, the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt has only seen concentrated exploration for gold over the last 25+ years. This under-explored district is becoming globally significant as a number of new and significant discoveries from Major mining companies like B2 Gold, Agnico Eagle and Rupert Resources have been made.
